Automotive technicians in Nova Scotia will have an opportunity to build their electric vehicle knowledge through a free EV safety training program this June.
To proactively prepare the sector for EV growth, the Automotive Sector Council launched SHIFT EV, a province-supported workforce initiative.
The upcoming SHIFT EV Safety Training program will provide introductory electric vehicle safety awareness training during a half-day session in Dartmouth, N.S. The training is designed to help technicians understand the unique hazards associated with high-voltage vehicle systems as EVs become a growing part of the Canadian vehicle parc.
Organizers say the program is intended for a wide range of experience levels, from apprentices to licensed and Red Seal technicians. Instruction, demonstrations and discussions will be tailored to participants’ existing knowledge and technical backgrounds.
The free training sessions are scheduled for June 10, 11 and 15.

As more hybrid and battery-electric vehicles enter independent service bays, technician training around high-voltage safety has become an increasing priority. Even shops that do not actively market EV repair services are encountering electrified vehicles requiring routine maintenance, inspections and diagnostics.
The program focuses on foundational safety awareness and is designed to help technicians better understand safe work practices around EV systems before pursuing more advanced technical training.
Training will take place in Dartmouth and there is no cost to participate. Interested technicians are encouraged to register early as space may be limited.
